Colt is in the business of selling guns, not parts. Early in their history Springfield Armory sold 1911 frames and U-build kits, but they stopped once their complete guns began filling the market. Avoid the temptation to replace parts on your brand-new 1911 just to make it "better". Know what you're changing out and why.

I appreciate ahead of time any assistance with these questions To make it quick - I have recently became the tickled happy owner of a Colt Officers Model 38. From the Colt Serial # Finder, it is a 1927 manufacture year, so I believe it puts it at a 3rd gen.
Notice Colt is not on that list, but they did supply the slides, with the 'Drawing Number' 7790314 on the LH side and the Colt's 'address' on the RH side. The first fully-hardened slide purchased by the government was also Colt, the early '50s Government Model slide with the full roll marks, Parkerized rather than blued.
